Make a New Year’s Intention & WIN a ticket to The Simple Plan Dallas

I don’t really like “New Year’s Resolutions”.  I think there is something very finite and grandiose about making a resolution.  Also, people tend to break resolutions.  So, what’s the use?  I like to make New Year’s Intentions.

An intention is a determination to do something or act a certain way.

An intention can be a goal or a plan.  It can be a big change or a small change.  It can be something personal or something business.  It can be the breaking of a bad habit and developing a good habit.  The key to making an intention and seeing it through is in visualizing the result.  Being able to identify the result is important in actualizing your intention.

This week, we’ll be sharing our intentions… I’ll be posting mine tomorrow and Kelly will post hers on Wednesday.

What’s your Intention?  SHARE & WIN!

We want to know what your intention is for the New Year.  Post a comment with your intention from now through Wednesday at 9pm EST and we’ll pick one person to win a free ticket to The Simple Plan in Dallas.

Happy 2010 to all!

December 28, 2009 - 8:25 am

Liane - My professional New Year’s Intention is to do 10 weddings this year. As a new wedding coordinating business, we’re just trying to get our name out there, and if we could do just 10 weddings this year I’d be so happy!
In my personal life, I intend to break the habit of procrastination. I could get so much more done that’s useful if I wasn’t stalling. :)
Also, I’d like to intend to win this contest- thanks for offering it!

December 28, 2009 - 9:07 am

Jennifer Jasiczek - My intention is to open up two new offices to serve West Texas. I’ve got one opening next week and another hopefully in March 2010. We are fortunate to have business all over the state, now we want to provide excellent customer service for all brides, just not the high end brides.

December 28, 2009 - 9:11 am

Lori Richardson - Great to see this! In 2010 I am publicly declaring 4 what I would call, “big audacious” goals – and publicly tracking my progress on my blog scoremoresales.com – there are four goals involving inspiration (I’m going to 50 cities talking to business owners about growing revenues) growing my OWN revenues publicly, a big health goal, and also auctioneering for 50 non-profits (am also a fundraising auctioneer). I am so excited and have offered, along the way, to post others’ big goals and intentions – and checking in with them as the time passes. Thanks for the oppty. Lori

Rachel - My personal/professional New Year’s intention is to be the BEST work-from-home mother possible to my 2-month-old son, while getting 24 events/weddings in 2010. I do a lot of my work with my son in my lap, making all kinds of goofy noises while I type and shaking rattles around to keep him entertained. Here’s to hoping his attention span grows a bit longer, ha ha!

December 28, 2009 - 9:54 am

Bernadette Smith - My intention is to improve work-life balance in part by blocking my day with dedicated time for email, blogging and work-work – and unplugging at 6pm!

December 28, 2009 - 10:48 am

Melinda Massie - Where to begin??? I have a LOT of intentions for this upcoming year. What can I say…I’ve always set very lofty goals for myself.

The biggest ones that come to mind are:
** professionally, I intend on growing my current event business and I’m also going to start a professional organizing business this year. I became an event planner due to my crazy-organizational skills and recently I’ve had quite a few people hire me for professional organizing. It just seems like the next logical extension of my career.
** personally, I intend to continue improvement on my running and yoga practice. I did my first 5K last year and this year want to actually run the entire thing. I also want to move into a new home this year so I can create a seperate office for my growing businesses.

December 28, 2009 - 12:12 pm

Andrea Scatuccio - My intention is to finally reach a level of success I have strived for so hard. These past two years have been meeting, sharing and building confidence through networking, blogs and social networking. Every business takes (3) years I’m told so here’s to year three and all good things to those around me for 2010!

December 28, 2009 - 12:28 pm

Kristy R. - Oooh I love this, new year’s intentions. Okay so here goes:

1. To reinstate Motivational Monday and Typography Tuesday readings in my studio.
2. Weekly huddles with my team Lara Casey style to share, motivate and inspire new ideas.
3. To make sure I live life, retain a balance and try to be in the moment more.

Thanks for inspiring me to share my intentions!

December 28, 2009 - 12:32 pm

Corrie - My intention is to finally launch an online store with greeting cards and other pre-designed pieces. I love designing stationery for life’s big events but would also love to design stuff for the smaller stuff too. The goal is to have some designs ready for Valentine’s Day, so we’ll see how it goes.

December 28, 2009 - 1:13 pm

Christina - My intention on a personal level is to really take my care seriously and work out at least 5 days a week for improved health. On the business side I want to double the number of weddings we shot in 2009 and laucnh our boudoir studio. Thanks for helping me put it out there.

December 28, 2009 - 2:15 pm

Liz Coopersmith - My intention is to book four clients every month, either full or day of wedding coordination, wedding venue search, or as a wedding minister. I’m also going to finish editing my book and get it sold.

December 28, 2009 - 5:56 pm

Cherkita Williams - My intention in 2010 is to grow my business. I am just starting and I want to learn as much as possible, coordinate weddings/events and grow my name in my community. I already have 1 wedding on schedule and that will keep me motivated to launch my business into the atmosphere.

December 28, 2009 - 10:32 pm

Wendy Kidd - My intentions for my business are to focus my customer service efforts, be flexible enough to work well with new types of clients and to increase my social networking efforts to reach those clients. For personal, I intend to work on life skills such as cooking and exercising. I also plan to sell my home and find a new one that I love. Should be a lot of hard work, but I’m excited about it!

December 28, 2009 - 11:01 pm

Catie Ronquillo - My business intention for 2010 is to do work on my business in order to book 12 weddings. As a newbie in Dallas, 12 bookings would be fab! My personal intention for 2010 is to eat healthier – cutting out fast food and eating vegetables at least during dinner. My hubby gives me a hard time about the veggies part!

December 29, 2009 - 12:29 am

Shayna Walker - My intention in 2010 is to start my first book (at least to choose which of the two I want to write will come first!).

December 29, 2009 - 8:53 am

Cherie Irwin - I have a few intentions for my business in 2010. 1. I will define my work schedule and stick to it. 2. I will check my daily to-do list on a daily basis, add necessary items to it, and accomplish the items on my list. 3. I will spend at least one hour every day working on my business, not just working for my clients. 4. I plan to make at least one connection every workday with someone in my industry. 5. I will stop working in my pajamas and take the time to officially start my workday.

December 29, 2009 - 7:30 pm

Deanie Yuska - Ohhh New Year’s intentions I LOVE it! I’m all about setting new goals and working toward improving my business and myself each New Year. Here are a few of mine:

Business- To be a smarter business woman. I actually have a funny yet educational story I could share at The Simple Plan Dallas about a rookie mistake I made during my first year of business.

To have set “office hours” and to stick to them.

To get involved in an industry association that is both well known locally and nationally.

Personal- To stay better connected and in touch with friends and family.

To devote more time to my husband and doggies…by turning off the phone, computer, TV, etc…several few times a week by 6pm (hence my “office hours”).

To read more, drink wine more, to laugh more, to do things outside more.

This last one is really silly, but one that just about every woman can appreciate and relate to – To use my flat iron A LOT less!

December 30, 2009 - 2:12 pm

calisara - My new year intention is to build routine. I need to be more disciplined as it’s far to easy to talk myself out of doing something, say like going to the gym (but this is just an easy one for example purposes). It’s too easy to say, well, if I eat better today then the gym can wait. I find working from home makes it easier to get away with tons of negotiations that I’ve created and then re-negotiated and it’s hard to be held accountable. I plan to create routine in my tasks. Focus on being disciplined. I believe this will help me achieve my goals whether personally or professionally. Thanks for sharing this post, so much to learn from the other comments!
