Heather Hamilton-Sims is the owner of Houston-based Simply Jubilee Events. I am most impressed by Heather’s leadership in the wedding industry. She serves as a member of The Association of Bridal Consultants, Emerging Leaders, Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is also the President-Elect for ISES, Houston. YOWZA! But, it doesn’t stop there. Her business has won all sorts of awards too. She and her team plan weddings from Texas to Georgia… and everything in between. I love it! Go, Heather, go!

Why did you start your business?
After working for an organization for over 8 years, my position was eliminated. I was encouraged by friends and family to take what I loved about my Area Marketing Manager position and establish my own event planning business. Thus, Simply Jubilee Events was born.
What book do you recommend to new business owners? Why?
I so recommend “The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Workand What to Do About It” by Michael E. Gerber. This book was recommended to me by a good friend of mine and has encouraged me to revamp how I operate my business. This book is comprised of extremely profound and incredibly useful information that has contributed to my company’s success.
Do you have any cool goal-setting tips to share with us?
The only tip that comes to mind is set realistic goals. Outside of the typical budget goals, I have a “Bucket” List for the company. My “Bucket list consists of quirky things that will contribute to my company’s progression but in a fun way.
What do you find to be the biggest challenge as a business owner?
My biggest challenge is letting go. When I started my company I wore all of the hats (i.e. Planner Hat, I/T Hat, HR Hat, Marketing Hat, etc.) and now I have established a great team of ladies that are capable of taking on those tasks. I have to catch myself sometimes.
If you were starting your business all over again, what would you have done differently?
If I had to start over and do one thing differently, I would most likely make better marketing decisions and not be talked into things I didn’t need. When I first started I posted my website on every outlet possible and accepted any and every event. I would be more selective on how I promote my company.
Thanks Heather!
