20 Tips for Going Wireless and Having Freedom from Technology

Yesterday’s post about my trip to Vancouver and going wireless for three WHOLE days inspired a lot of comments and questions.  How do you do that?

Here are my 20 Tips for Going Wireless:

  1. Leave your home and leave your laptop at home.
  2. Get a manicure.
  3. Play the piano or the banjo or the accordion.  (Idle hands are the devil’s playthings!)
  4. Cook and/or Bake.
  5. Leave your cell phone or PDA/Smartphone at home.
  6. Travel to a country where you don’t have cell or wireless coverage.
  7. Take up a very “manually consuming” hobby, like knitting.  (Thanks to Julianne Smith for that one!)
  8. Invest in solely a desktop computer that stays at your office.
  9. Go swimming.
  10. Ask your spouse, roommate or friend to hide your technology until 9am the following morning.
  11. If you have a home office, lock the door at 6pm every night.
  12. Go to the movies.
  13. Accidentally drop your Smartphone  in the toilet.
  14. Put a lock on it.
  15. If you are a social media junkie (like me) download LeechBlock, a Firefox add-on to limit the time you spend on certain sites.  (Thanks to Lara Casey for that one!)
  16. Go to the gym.
  17. Grab a cup of coffee with a friend.
  18. Talk on the phone instead of typing on it.
  19. Watch Mad Men.
  20. Sleep.

I hope these tips help you go wireless…. or, at the very least, give you a giggle!;)
